Dervishes are Maulana Rumi’s disciples which in the Turkish language are known as “Mureed”. Maulana Rumi had a great influence on Muslim writing and culture. In today’s era, his poetry is well known throughout the world and has enjoyed something of a renaissance.

750 years ago, Maulana Rumi was walking on the streets when a thought entered his mind about the one and only Allah and he felt the deep love for his Creator. He realized that his heart started beating so fast. He wondered how this happened out of nowhere. At that moment, Maulana Rumi turned round and round while reciting Allah’s magnificent Names and praised Him in the form of poetry. This dance formed the basis for Whirling Dervishes, after his death.
Maulana Rumi found ecstasy in dancing, poetry, and music. The Dervishes Whirling belong to a Sufi magical sect. He died on December 17, 1273 A.D. After that every year, from 8th December till 17th December, Sema whirling ceremony is held in Konya. After his death, his son kept his practices alive.

The Whirling Dervishes expand their white skirts and puts them into a soothing trance which they say brings them closer to Allah. Deep concentration and careful footwork are what keeps them from getting dizzy. Whirling Dervishes doing this Sufi dance symbolizes enchanted happiness and divine love. The dance and music are designed to actuate a meditative state on the love of Allah. They whirl timelessly and effortlessly.

Maulana Rumi expresses his love in Masnavi as: “Love is an infinite ocean whose skies are a bubble of foam. Know that it’s the waves of affection that make the wheel of the heavens turn; without Love, the planet would be inanimate. How is an inorganic thing transformed into a plant? How are the plants sacrificed to become gifted with spirit? How is that the spirit sacrificed for the Breath, of which only a whiff was enough to impregnate Mary? Each atom is intoxicated with this Perfection and hastens toward it, their haste says implicitly: ‘Glory be to God”.

Our products honor the legacy of Maulana Rumi and the Whirling Dervishes.
